Bayou Bacchanal

Bayou Bacchanal is a spirited celebration that showcases the rich Caribbean culture and heritage, held annually in New Orleans, Louisiana. Organized by the Friends of Culture, this festival aims to connect the Greater New Orleans area with the vibrant traditions of the Caribbean islands. The event typically spans over two days and is packed with a variety of activities that highlight Caribbean arts, cuisine, and music.

The festival begins with a “Wear White Dance” party and continues into the next day with a parade and a series of performances in Congo Square at Louis Armstrong Park. Participants in the parade, including dance troupes and marching bands, energize the crowd with Soca, Dancehall, and Reggae music. This family-friendly event invites attendees to don costumes and engage in the festivities, which also include live performances by Caribbean artists, a costume competition, and a diverse selection of Caribbean food vendors offering dishes like jerk chicken, roti, and curry goat. The festival provides an immersive experience into Caribbean culture, celebrating with dance, music, and culinary delights until the sun sets.
