But here’s the thing… where you stay can completely shape your Carnival experience. And since I know this island inside-out, let me walk you through the best areas to stay in St. Maarten during Carnival — from the heart of the action to the quieter spots where we locals go to recharge.
St. Maarten Carnival 2026 will take place from April 10 to May 5, 2026, with the biggest public energy building into the final days, especially around J’ouvert, Carnival Day, and the Grand Parade.
Arrive by Saturday, April 25 or Sunday, April 26 so you’re on island in time for J’ouvert (April 27) and the main road events.
A 5 to 7 day stay is ideal so you can experience J’ouvert, and both Grand Parades without rushing.
Best for: First-timers, parade access, and full Carnival energy
If you want to feel Carnival morning the second you open your hotel door, Philipsburg hotels are the move. Philipsburg is home to our Festival Village — the hub for concerts, pageants, and food stalls where locals and visitors lime together. Nearby spots like Divi Little Bay Beach Resort and Belair Beach Hotel are just minutes away, making them perfect options if you want Carnival convenience with a touch of beachfront relaxation.
Use the map to find and book stays near the Carnival parade route!
Best for: Nightlife, dining, and easy access to Philipsburg
As a local, I’ll tell you straight: Simpson Bay is where plenty of us go to eat, lime, and enjoy the nightlife year-round. For Carnival, it’s a perfect balance — close to Philipsburg but with its own energy. Simpson Bay Carnival stays mean you’ll have bars, late-night food spots, and boat parties at your fingertips.
👉🏽 Local tip: Traffic can get rough around Simpson Bay during Carnival week, so plan your jump-up trips with extra time.
Best for: Resort lovers and Carnival with a view
We know you’ve seen those viral videos of planes flying right over the beach — that’s Maho. Funny thing, many places I’ve visited around the world, people say they’ve never heard of St. Maarten. But the moment I ask if they’ve heard of Maho, they light up and say, “Oh yeah, Maho Island!” I even met an Australian who tried to convince me that I lived on Maho. That’s how famous this little strip of beach is. Staying here gives you a mix of resort luxury and pure island fun, and it’s just a short drive to Philipsburg for Carnival events.
👉🏽 Local tip: If you’re staying in Maho, you’ll find plenty of Carnival warm-up limes right in the hotels and casinos.
Best for: Beach relaxation and post-Carnival recovery
To be honest with you, I wouldn’t usually recommend staying on the French side if Carnival is your main focus. The action is really on the Dutch side. But if you do want one spot across the border, Orient Bay would be my pick. It’s got that laid-back, European-style beach vibe where you can recover after a wild night at Festival Village. And yes, let’s not forget — Orient Bay is also famous for its clothing-optional stretch, so don’t be surprised if you come across a more liberating beach experience.
👉🏽 Local tip: It’s a bit of a drive from the heart of Carnival, so renting a car is the smart move if you decide to stay here.
As a local, I’d say: stick to the Dutch side if Carnival is your priority. Note that the French side has its own Carnival, which offers a very different cultural vibe. So if you’re visiting for Carnaval de St. Martin then choose the French Side, but if youre visiting for the Dutch side Carnival, stay on the Dutch side for ease.
Carnival is our pride and joy — it’s more than just a party, it’s our culture. Whether you stay in Philipsburg for the full vibes, Simpson Bay for the balance, or Maho for resort fun, you’ll feel the heartbeat of the island wherever you are.
So book your trip early, pack your energy, and get ready — SXM Carnival 2026 is going to be unforgettable, so you won’t want to miss out on the road with Klimaxx Karnival.
