Toronto Carnival, better known as Caribana, is pure vibes and culture taking over the streets of Toronto every summer. What started back in 1967 as a way for Caribbean people to share their rhythm, flavor, and freedom has now grown into one of the biggest Caribbean Carnivals in all of North America.
The energy builds all July long, leading up to that massive Grand Parade — a full explosion of color, feathers, music, and movement that pulls crowds from across the globe.
At the heart of it all are the masqueraders decked out in jaw-dropping costumes, moving to the pulse of soca, calypso, dancehall, and reggae. Every band brings their own Caribbean flair — from Trinidad and Tobago to Jamaica, Barbados, Grenada, St. Lucia, and beyond. The costumes shine bright with feathers, gems, and bold colors — a visual love letter to Caribbean creativity and freedom.
But Caribana is more than just the road. All month long, Toronto turns into one big Caribbean celebration — live concerts, tasty island food, cultural showcases, boat rides, fetes, and family events. It’s where Caribbean pride meets Toronto cool — a space to connect, celebrate heritage, and show the world what unity through culture really looks like.
At Toronto’s Caribbean Carnival, expect a whirlwind of vibrant colors, infectious music, and lively celebrations showcasing the rich cultures of the Caribbean. The highlight is the grand parade featuring elaborately costumed masqueraders dancing to the rhythms of soca, calypso, and reggae, drawing millions of spectators. The Grand Parade, is a spectacular event where costumed mas bands parade through Exhibition Place and Lakeshore Boulevard. The elaborate costumes, energetic dancing, and infectious soca and calypso music create a spectacle.
A parade dedicated to children, allowing them to showcase their costumes and celebrate the carnival spirit in a fun, family-oriented environment.
Throughout the carnival, cultural events highlight the rich traditions of the Caribbean, including storytelling, dance, and art. Food vendors offer mouthwatering Caribbean dishes like jerk chicken, doubles, roti, and patties.
A lively event celebrating Caribbean music, where steelpan bands compete to showcase their musical talent. The melodic and rhythmic sounds of the steelpan bring the Caribbean spirit to Toronto.
This traditional Caribbean street party features revelers covered in paint, powder, and mud. With pulsating soca beats, it’s a high-energy celebration of freedom.
A pre-parade competition where the most elaborate and artistic costumes are displayed. Masqueraders vie for the coveted titles of King and Queen of the Bands, showcasing Caribbean creativity and craftsmanship.

Toronto Caribbean Carnival is North America's largest Caribbean festival, running from the King and Queen showcase and Junior Carnival through to the Grand Parade along Lakeshore Boulevard.
